About Ohma Beads:

Creator, Olivia Barney was inspired to learn how to make beaded earrings by her talented grandmother, Oma Edie. Oma learned how to bead while she lived in Albuquerque, NM, and took classes in the 1980s when she was in her early 60s. The technique she learned was loom weaving using glass seed beads. This craft was influenced by the eastern & western Apache, as well as other Southwestern Plains tribes. This work is in honor of her Oma.

During these strange times, she had the time and health to continue practicing this craft. Beading kept her mind and hands busy. She found that the detailed, repetitive work of beading filled a space of meditative movement for her. She created Ohma Beads in May of 2020 and as of December, she found herself starting a new life in Berlin with her partner. Her Oma was born in Berlin, which has now highlighted how much more this new business means to her and how the passion they share has led her back to her Oma's birthplace.

Each set of earrings are made by hand with a needle and thread. She loves every moment of it. She hopes you feel the passion and love she puts into each piece.
