“ Poetry meets Robbery” or the sad story of Bonnie and Clyde.
Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (October 1, 1910 – May 23, 1934) and Clyde Chestnut Barrow (March 24, 1909 – May 23, 1934) were American criminals who became the first couple that would be named nowadays “Social Media Celebs”.
✂️ We used as a base a real genuine prison inmate jacket with the original name tags from the 1950/60s.
✂️ Clyde Barrows's original plan was to become a US Navy sailor. But when he got rejected for health issues, he had already a USN tattoo on his left under-arm.
We reflect this by a chain-stitched USN patch dated around 1940-1950.
✂️ They became famous because during their year-long run they left back a lot of photos in their hideaways. As the police got no experience how to deal with these photos, they just handed them to the press. And the press made Bonnie and Clyde the first social media criminal celebs.
That's why we patched on the back a handmade photo print of Bonnie and Clyde showing them with a stolen car in 1933.
✂️ On Wednesday, May 23, 1934, four police officers from Texas and two from Louisiana ambushed Bonnie and Clyde on Highway 164.
To represent them we added original police uniform buttons from both states.
✂️ Bonnie Parker liked to write odes and poems since schooldays. The last one she gave to her mother just two weeks before she died:
“One day they will go down together and they will bury them side by side. To a few it will be grief – to the law a relief.
But it's death for Bonnie and Clyde.”
The car had 167 bullet holes in it after police caught both.

The jacket is in used condition. It has fading and stains – and we used this ON PURPOSE as it reflects “prison” at its best!
